International Programs

The Office of International Student Services provides programming that includes both FHSU international students and Hays community members.

Friendship Family Program
The Friendship Family Program (FFP) is a community based program where international students from Fort Hays State University are matched with local Hays families. It is not a home stay program. Hays friends and international students are friends, just as they are friends with others. Individuals, students, married couples and families are all encouraged to participate in the Friendship Family Program.

International Fair & International Education Week
The International Fair is held during the fall semester. The Fair includes a variety of country groups selling traditional foods from their respective countries, a display of items from their countries, and a style show. International Education Week is declared nationally by the US Departments of State and Education. It takes place the second week of November. The office presents activities and events during the week for the FHSU community.

Speakers Bureau Program
The Office of International Student Services in conjunction with the International Student Union (ISU) provides the Speakers Buraeau Progam which allows international students from FHSU to make short presentations about their country, geography, history, and traditions in the Hays community. The international students also enjoy sharing art projects such as origami, cultural writing and speaking, or reading a book at story time.

SPICE Series
Three Internationals spices are held each year in conjunction with the International Student Union. The International Spice is an evening devoted to exploring a featured country's food, clothing, culture, holidays, education system, government, and geography. This event has been proven to be both entertaining and educational for both university and community members.
