Oktoberfest is held the first weekend in October. It is considered a German holiday where the citizens of Hays and the surrounding towns gather in Frontier Park to eat German foods & celebrate the German heritage. The FHSU homecoming parade is held on Saturday in downtown Hays prior to the football game.
International Spice: Three spices are held each year in conjunction with the Office of International Student Services. The International Spice is an evening devoted to exploring a featured country's food, clothing, culture, holidays, education system, government, and geography. This event has been proven to be both entertaining and educational for both university and community members.

The International Fair is held during the fall semester and is one of the largest events ISU organizes for the university and community members. The Fair includes a variety of country groups selling traditional foods from their respective countries, a display of items from their countries, and a style show.

International Education Week This week is declared nationally by the US Departments of State and Education. It takes place the second week of November. ISU members present activities and events during the week in cooperation with the Office of International Student Services.

Halloween Party/Pumpkin Carving Contest ISU holds this annual event every year at the last week of October. This event is very fun and it introduces the American holiday and traditions to international students. ISU members can carve pumpkins into a traditional jack-o-lantern or use a template to create a more elaborate design..

Easter Egg Dyeing and Crafts ISU also exposes international students to the American holiday of Easter. The students decorate eggs by coloring on them or dyeing the eggs in different color dyes. The students can also make a variety of craft items that vary from year to year.

Graduation Recognition Program Each May, the Office of International Student Services and ISU plans a recognition night for international students who are graduating from FHSU. It is a great opportunity for students to be recognized for their many achievements while at FHSU. ISU members receive a graduation medallion free of charge at the ceremony.

Classroom Presentations/Speakers Bureau Program is provided throughout the year to area elementary and high schools within a 30 mile radius of Hays upon request. These presentations are normally for geography, history, or special class presentations. They are normally covered during the class lesson. Bringing items from your home country would be beneficial in case you are asked to participate. Both members and non-members of ISU present information about their home countries to the surrounding communities.
