Catalysts for Change
What Catalysts Created the Challenge?
- Globalization: the dynamic flow of technology,
economics, knowledge, people, values, and ideas across borders pushing
21st century higher education toward greater international involvement.
Globalization cannot be stopped, but internationalization (the way countries,
people, and institutions respond to globalization) involves choice and
strategy
- Competition: increased worldwide competition
among all kinds of higher education players and emergence of demand
in developing countries
- New Expectations: shifting consumer
and stakeholder expectations
- Changing Demographics: population declines
and an aging workforce
- Issue-Salience: renewed emphasis
on global themes like energy and the environment
Internal Catalysts for Change
- President Hammond's 2007 "Dare
to Dream" Theme
- FHSU Mission Statement - "...Graduates are
provided a foundation...to understand global complexities"
- FHSU Strategic Plan Theme - "To develop and
implement a comprehensive set of projects, programs, and activities
that will internationalize the campus and curricula"
