Article Categories

JOLE solicits articles concerning the nexus of leadership and education. Five categories of articles are offered to indicate the range of acceptable articles and to provide authors with guidance, if needed. The maximum length for each catagory includes the abstract as well as all tables, charts and figures, but does not include references.

Features  

Features provide a thorough discussion of a research finding or theory finding. The recommended maximum length is 5,000 words; they are reviewed by the editor and three referees. Please do not include additional information in an appendix. Appendicies will be deleted from the manuscript.

  • Research Feature: For research-based papers containing a clear statement of an issue/hypothesis, a review of related scholarship with synthesis of theory, a discussion and conclusion.
  • Theory Feature: For development of theory that is not mnecessarily data based, but concerns a clear issue/hypothesis, a review of related scholarship with synthesis of theory, and discussion and conclusion.

Briefs

Briefs provide the opportunity for a shorter, to the point, discussion of either an idea or an application. The recommended maximum length is 2,500 words; they are reviewed by the editor and one to three reviewers at the discretion of the editor.

  • Idea Brief: This category provides the opportunity to explore an innovative idea, finding or challenge, based in theory or practice.
  • Application Brief: This category is for a description of a project, program, practices, or tool with consideration of the principals/theory of why it is effective.

Commentary

The Commentary category provides the opportunity for all, within ALE and interested readers, in sharing an opinion related to leadership education. A commentary may be a response to a previous article and/or may be intended to promote debate. The recommended maximum length is 3,000 words. It is reviewed by the editor.
