Well, readers, in just a week we’ll be celebrating the most American holiday besides the Fourth of July. That’s right, kids, it’s time for Thanksgiving! While it is, of course, a time to be thankful and to count our blessings, it’s also a celebration of all things American. Let’s look at why, shall we?

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, I decided to dedicate this week’s news to a few of the many things I am thankful for. Note the words “a few.” If this column actually encompassed all things I find worthy of that description … well … you would still be reading after the pumpkin pie. Thus, I have attempted to list (I enjoy listing, as you have probably noticed) the top three things that bring joy and fulfillment into my life.

One of the perils of modern, bureaucracy-ridden life is the form. It’s hard to imagine the sort of person who likes filling out a long, annoying form.

OK, so I love holidays. I really do. Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, all wonderful celebrations. All times that I get to chill with my family, have time off from school, eat a ridiculous amount of food and possibly get some odd jobs done. Wait, actually, nix the last one. It’s a holiday.

Inside a vast majority of humans is the desire to be accepted. To put it another way, we feed on the love and attention we get from others, and whether we want to admit it or not, we want to be noticed and loved.

Sitting in a concourse terminal at Chicago’s O’Hare airport the other day after a long holiday, I couldn’t help but take in the people-watching opportunity as I sat waiting for my flight.

As the end of first semester draws closer (insert clapping and cheering), it is time for students to compose their spring class schedules. For myself, it is the last time this will ever occur.
