M.O.R.E. @ FHSU: Making Orientation Really Exceptional at Fort Hays State University

Team Members: Janese Farr, Jeff Kaczmarczyk, Kimberly Pfannenstiel, Sara Reese
Mission Statement: Our team, M.O.R.E. at FHSU, was formed to deal with the orientation issue at Fort Hays State University. The initial vision for our project was to totally revise the orientation process at Fort Hays. We envisioned abandoning the old, boring format by involving campus organizations in orientation and making it more fun and interactive for the freshmen/ new students who attend. We also foresaw advantages for the university as a whole as a result of a more student-friendly orientation process. Our goals were to increase awareness for the need for change in the orientation process and to eventually present to campus leaders, administrators, students, and organizations as well as the orientation committee about our new plan for orientation.

Together for Big Brothers Big Sisters

Team Members: Denise Heeke, Daren Hilger, Amanda Kraft, Lisa Nowak, Autumn Rice, Matt Taylor
Mission Statement: Our vision was to work with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ellis County, helping to make it more successful by reaching out to the community and the volunteers. Our first goal was to create a discount card. The card can be used by the volunteers when they are entertaining their little brother or sister to get discounts at local businesses. The second goal we set was to recruit and increase the number of Big and Little Brothers and Sisters.

S.T.R.E.A.K.E.R.S.: Special Team of Recruitment Educators Attaining Knowledge for Every Region

Team Members: Andy, Nicole, MeLisa, Anna Beth, Matt
Mission Statement: The S.T.R.E.A.K.E.R.S. are dedicated to and responsible for the development of a special organized plan for increasing campus enrollment. We have formed for the purpose of planning, filming, and implementing and informative video to entice prospective students to attend FHSU.

Ellis Main Street Event

Team Members: Vera Havor, Mary Jo Waltz, Jennifer Younger
Mission Statement: Many times community events sizzle out, and that is the case with the Ellis Community Christmas event, “Follow the Star to Ellis.” Through promotion, our leadership team will increase awareness to downtown and create a community-wide Christmas spirit. Store fronts will be filled with a variety of businesses that will compliment an antique niche that Ellis is already known for. Our wish is that “Follow the Star to Ellis” will possibly create a “signature event” to be held on an annual basis—an event that Ellis becomes known for.

Creative Sign Team

Team Members: Haley Baldwin, LeAnn Dreher, Audrey Montgomery, Eric Richards, Lana Vogts
Mission Statement: CST envisions a downtown environment that is appealing and purposeful. Our signage project will contribute to the success of the district by creating identification and public awareness. Our team’s intentions include creating the atmosphere that will eventually exist within the Chestnut Street community. Because signage is such a vast project, we plan to focus on several specific projects, including Information Kiosk, Antique Street Signs, Cast Iron Signs, Painted Logo, Hays City Walk of Fame, WANTED Signs, “Coming Soon” Signs, and Special Event Banners.

Big for a Night

Team Members: Dyanne Boucher
Mission Statement: The goal is to supply appropriate counseling services including intensive one-on-one counseling, family counseling, support counseling groups, and peer counseling to all young teen mothers in school. To see each girl learns parenting skills that will help lower her stress level, and to convince these new mothers to take care of themselves first so they can take care of their wonderful new children.

Fort Hays Leadership Unification Committee: FrostFest 2001

Team Members: Elizabeth Eberle, Theresa Evans, Phil Simon, Tracy Kramer, Michelle Joy
Mission Statement: It is the vision of the Fort Hays Leadership Unification Committee for FrostFest to become a well-known, well-attended event in which many members of the Hays community are involved.

1-derful

Team Members: Chris Copelan, Kealan German, Philip Isernhagen, Mindy Knopp, Tami Norris, Kristi Reif
Mission Statement: In the leadership Project Team 1-derful, our mission is to assess the needs and wants of the community. We are making plans on how to gather this information from the citizens of Hays. This will be done by various surveys, focus groups, and researching national trends among successful downtowns.

S.O.D.A.: Students Organizing Downtown Appearance

Team Members: Chad Butler, Addie Homburg, Sarah Huslig, Audrey Montgomery, Tanner Raymer
Mission Statement: It is our mission to enhance the unique assets and appeal of the Chestnut Street District, by incorporating time-inspired lighting… lighting the way to a Social Destination.

Programming Festival Committee

Team Members: Kristen Fellhoelter, Kara Kastens, Jay Joy, Ashley Robinson, Trevor Stapp
Mission Statement: Our mission is to help with the revitalization of downtown Hays. We want to create an atmosphere with an exciting combination of interesting retail shops, good restaurants, recreation/education facilities, meeting places for friends to get together, a friendly and cheerful environment, with fun and exciting entertainment.
