Taking Paws to the People

Team Members:

Mission Statement:
Taking Paws to the People produced an effective strategy, in conjunction with the Humane Society of the High Plains, to promote the necessity of adopting sheltered animals.

Wilson Wake Wardens

Team Members:
Melanie Cole, Kaci Davignon, Rheta Mai, Lesley Schmidt, Derrick Stephens, Brandon Weigel

Mission Statement:
While utilizing our leadership skills, research abilities, and our passion for a good cause as a team, we will help to improve the community with positive longstanding effects.

YouthFriends for the Future

Team Members:
Alicia Giersch, Aaron Gillespie, Lisa Glennemerier, Devin Grooms, Sarah Osborn

Mission Statement:
We are working in connection with Rae Smith and the YouthFriends organization to increase awareness of the program among college-aged students. We are also going to increase the amount of college-aged students who participate with YouthFriends, especially young males.

CPR Training: "The Resuscitators"

Team Members:
Cody Burger, Kevin Christensen, Amber Franklin, Jordan Kelsey, Matt McClain, Linda O’Neal, Donald Rowe, Brett Whitaker

Mission Statement:
Team Resuscitators will provide Fort Hays State University faculty members with the opportunity to become CPR certified. Resources such as the Red Cross and on-campus facilities will be used to offer faculty members limited training sessions to become CPR certified. By providing this training opportunity, the campus and community will be treated with a safer learning environment.

Cancer Council of Ellis County

Team Members:
Deanna Dechant, Lisa Nemnich, Sarah Panning, Daniel Timm, Jerremy Wilson

Mission Statement:
Our Cancer Council Awareness Team of Fort Hays State University has been organized to host a softball tournament and awareness panel discussion in an effort to raise awareness and increase available resources for the Cancer Council of Ellis County.

ETF: Eco Taskforce, Commercial Recycling

Team Members:
Joe Deneke, Dustin Myers, Kyle Ochs, Travis Plummer, Bonnie Rupke

Mission Statement:
The Eco Taskforce in conjunction with the city of Hays and the commercial businesses of Hays will develop and bring about a cost-effective commercial recycling program tailored to meet the unique needs of the city of Hays. This new program will serve the merchants and citizens of the Hays community.

Emprise “Sweets and Treats”

Team Members:
Danee’ Atwell-Langer, Laura Bryant, Karli Mader, Jason Reese

Mission Statement:
Our team had the most tremendous opportunity on our hands this semester. We felt we could offer positive change for the common good of Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Emprise Sweets and Treats through our volunteer work and using the Sweets and Treats for a fundraiser. We revitalized the events by adding additional activities that assisted us in contributing a large donation to Big Brothers Big Sisters and created interest in the Emprise sponsored event.

Tigers for Safe Transportation

Team Members:
Sean Bright, Ashley Rihner, Jackie Schmidt, Deb Taylor, Kelly Wilson

Mission Statement:
The purpose of Tigers for Safe Transportation is to decrease the amount of drunk drivers in the city of Hays by assisting the current Safe Ride program in the way of funding and awareness.

Committee for a Smoke-Free Environment

Team Members:
Trapper Buettgenbach, Michael Cutting, Dennis Hahn, Katrina Hoffman, Sarah Piper

Mission Statement:
We exist to preserve the health of the citizens of Hays, Kansas. Our goal is to prohibit smoking in all food-serving establishments within city limits.
