Ms. Brungardt is actively involved in many community projects throughout Ellis County. She serves as the director of the Kansas Women's Leadership Conference and the associated statewide community service project. She serves as a Fellow for the FHSU Center for Civic Leadership, particularly in the programming of the American Democracy Project.
In 2008, Christie and her husband Dr. Curt Brungardt created the 1100 Torches program to honor their daughter who lost her life that year. This initiative seeks to inspire 1100 people to serve others. www.1100torches.org
Christie publishes and presents in the fields of service-learning, civic engagement and leadership development. In the spring of 2004 she received the University's Outstanding Service Award. She has twice been a fiinalist for the Pilot Award, the university's outstanding teaching award. And in 2008 she received the university's Edmund Shearer Advisor of the Year Award.
Christie's hobbies include reading, gardening, and enjoying friends and family at the Council Grove City Lake.
