2007 Spring Conference - Keynote Speakers

Bob Anastas

Over the past two decades, Bob Anastas (the founder and former executive director of Students Against Driving Drunk - SADD) has risen to national prominence as a speaker, educator, and author. Today, through his program, "Check In To A Winning Life," he brings to students a timely, motivational message on how young people can develop responsible attitudes and make smart choices about the many challenges they face. Mr. Anastas is a former college All-American football and hockey player, and was named Massachusetts' high school teacher and coach of the year.

 

Will Baker

Mr. Baker, a young successful business executive for the Target Corporation, is a motivational speaker who uses lessons in sports as a tool to teach leadership and character development. He holds a bachelor's and a master's degree in Organizational Leadership. Mr. Baker is a former multi-sports high school student athlete at Overland High School (Aurora, CO) -Trailblazers, and a collegiate baseball player for Colorado State University and Mesa State College (CO). He also played minor league baseball for the Tri-Cities Posse of the Western Baseball League. He and his family reside in the northern suburbs of Chicago, Illinois.

Coach Bill Snyder

Coach Snyder retired as Kansas State head football coach in Nov. 2005. He became the school’s all-time winning football coach with 136 wins. Coach Snyder has received many prestigious awards including the National Coach of the Year by the Associated Press (1991, 1994 and 1998), and the Bear Bryant Award (1998) among many others. More importantly, Coach Snyder is passionate about leadership development for young people. He leads by example through nurturing and empowering young people to be well rounded citizens.

 

Cathie Klein

Mrs. Klein serves as the Director of the Kansas Youth Leadership Academy and was formerly a middle school educator. Mrs. Klein sponsored the Character Education program at Felten Middle School and was a nominee for Master Teacher in 2003. She has served on numerous boards and facilitated at dozens of events. Mrs. Klein is a co-author of a leadership textbook for educators and a former student athlete from J.J. Pearce High School (TX) - Mustangs



Dr. Curt Brungardt

Dr. Brungardt serves as the Director of the Center for Civic Leadership. Dr. Brungardt started the Department of Leadership Studies at Fort Hays State University in 1993, and later went on to create the Center for Civic Leadership in 2001. He has taught in the field of leadership studies for the past 13 years and was recently awarded the Omer D. Voss Distinguished Professorship. Over the past 15 years, he has presented and facilitated over 100 workshops throughout America and published three books and a dozen articles in the field of leadership studies. He is a former student athlete from Garden City High School - Buffaloes.

Doug Finch - head basketball coach, Salina Central High School. Former student athlete from Natoma High School - Tigers.

John Hanley- Public Relations Coordinator for Sunflower Bank in Salina. Former student athlete from Clear Lake High School in Clear Lake, Iowa- Lions.
