Allyson Plattner has been chosen as the Department of Leadership Studies Student of the Month. While taking classes from the Department of Leadership Studies, Allyson has exemplified the true meaning of a team player. Not only is she a double major, she finds time to be involved in multiple activities across the FHSU campus. Allyson somehow manages to balance her academic life with additional commitments to Tigerwild, Kansas Youth Leadership Academy, and Tigers in Service. You will regularly find her going above and beyond her occupational duties as the McMindes Assistant Hall Director, McMindes Hall Council Sponsor, and member of the Resident Hall Association. Allyson has truly found the meaning of servant leadership.
When she finds time in her busy schedule, Allyson loves to spend time with her “amazing” friends and family. Allyson tries to live life to the fullest by always pushing herself to try new things and take on different challenges. Traveling, movies, and reading are also tops on her hobbies list.
When we asked Allyson why she chose the Leadership Department, she stated, “I chose to get involved with the Leadership Department because it hooked me from the very beginning. I took 300, Introduction to Leadership Concepts, because my friends suggested it. It seemed to be designed specifically for me and I have been an advocate for the program ever since. I have had countless opportunities because of my experience with the department. Leadership challenges me in a way that I haven’t been challenged before. The department gives you “the stuff” that you will need to make it in life. It has changed my perspective of life. I have a very strong network and support system within the department. I had to become a part of this great organization on campus. It was one of the best decisions I could have made in my short 5 years here at FHSU.”
