February Students of the Month
On-Campus Graduate of the Month

Student Name: Aaron Muth

Residence: Phoenix, AZ

 Major: B.S. Organizational Leadership (2005)

“I had always envisioned the working world to be filled with self-motivators, but found out in short order that that wasn’t the case. The ability to motivate a team to accomplish the task at hand has been very beneficial.”
-Aaron Muth

Aaron Muth is the Department of Leadership’s On-Campus Graduate of the Month. Aaron has been afforded tremendous success since he has left the Fort Hays State campus. Currently, Aaron is the Sports Sales and Marketing Manager for the Mesa Convention and Visitors Bureau. Aaron’s job requires him to be very versatile. His team promotes the Phoenix Metropolitan area as the premier location for athletic events and/or tournaments. One day he could be working with the NCAA, and the next he could be setting up the Little League Baseball Regional Championship tournament.

Aaron feels that his Leadership degree has played a large role in his ability to unlock his personal potential, as well as the potential around him. Aaron stated that his Leadership degree has allowed him, “to contribute to teams in sales, marketing, and publishing, while colleagues have been pigeonholed due to their undergraduate degrees.” Aaron also stated, “The degree has especially prepared me for dealings and negotiations with outside organizations.”

We asked Aaron which perspective of Leadership learned in the classroom he never thought he would use, but finds himself performing regularly; and his answer was very interesting. Aaron stated that, “I had always envisioned the working world to be filled with self-motivators, but found out in short order that that wasn’t the case. The ability to motivate a team to accomplish the task at hand has been very beneficial.”

The Leadership Department wishes to congratulate Aaron Muth on his current success and his dedication to Leadership development.

Virtual Undergraduate Student of the Month

Student Name: Alan Baumel

Hometown: Orange County, CA

Current Major: General Studies with emphasis in Leadership and Human Services

Year at FHSU: Sophomore

“I chose to get involved with the Department of Leadership Studies because I was looking for something to fill what I perceived to be missing today from management, organizations, and society."
-Alan Baumel

Alan Baumel is the Department of Leadership’s Virtual Student of the Month. Since Alan resides in California, he takes all of his courses online; making a unique educational experience. Spending time with family, hiking, biking, and going to the beach are just a few of Alan’s many interests. Being separated from the college campus makes it difficult to become involved with any on-campus activities; however he is currently considering joining NSCS. A newfound interest for Alan is the exploration of leadership and its role and affect in society. He enjoys studying and writing on this subject and tries to identify areas in his organization to employ his knowledge.

When asked why he chose the Department of Leadership Studies, Alan stated, “I chose to get involved with the Department of Leadership Studies because I was looking for something to fill what I perceived to be missing today from management, organizations, and society. When I started with the Department of Leadership Studies I wasn’t exactly sure what was missing, it was more of a belief, a hint that something was missing, and that something should be different. Right from the start of the first Leadership course the idea of what was missing and what should be different started to take more form. Now in my sixth and seventh Leadership course I truly believe that idea is turning into an absolute vision and passion of what’s missing and should be different. Being involved with the Department of Leadership Studies has been truly educational and inspiring – I am looking forward to more!”
