The Tigers4Life program was started by a Leadership 310 team in the fall of 2006. Tigers4Life (T4L) tries to enhance the college experience by connecting students with Tiger grads and introducing them to the pride and traditions of FHSU. T4L provides opportunities for the leaders of tomorrow with fun and exciting events for members only. This internship will entail working with the Alumni Association on the Fort Hays Campus and promoting the program.

The purpose of the Marketing and Promotions Intern will be to support the Union’s goal of increasing student, faculty, staff and public traffic in the building, and to increase usage of the Unions programs, services and facilities. The Student Marketing and Promotions Intern will address the following tasks to promote increased awareness and use of the Memorial Union’s facilities, services and programs. More specifically the Intern will help promote the Memorial Union through printed materials and media outlets, including brochures, announcements, newsletters, and advertising. The student will work with the campus newspaper to coordinate advertising, and news coverage of Union events and services, and with feature articles about the Union. The intern will gain experience by working with all departments of the Union to ensure a consistent public relations approach. He/she will coordinate focus groups, need assessments and surveys to ascertain campus view and perception of the Union’s services, programs and facilities. Also, the intern will be able to develop and maintain marketing partnerships to enhance the image of the Memorial Union. One student will be selected to serve as the Union Marketing and Promotions Intern. He/she will work approximately 10 hours per week through each of the academic semesters.

The Center for Student Involvement (CSI) will be offering an internship to work on marketing, programming, leadership development and promotion within the areas of the CSI. These areas include: Student Organizations, Greek Life, Diversity Affairs, Special Events, University Activities Board and the Student Government Association. The mission of the CSI is to guide, support and challenge students to enhance their total educational experience by facilitating opportunities that foster involvement and leadership opportunities with the aim to enhance professional, personal and civic responsibility in diverse learning environments for all students. The CSI was created in fall 2006 as a new area of offices at Fort Hays State University. The CSI is looking for an intern that will be able to examine our current programs and structure, and to look at ways for improvement. The internship will involve creating marketing and/or communication plans to assist in furthering our mission and to enhance the experience of our stakeholders. The CSI intern will work alongside the professional staff in implementation of our mission. The intern should be a self-motivated, hard working student that is interested in helping others and working for the betterment of all FHSU students. Unpaid internships are available and paid internships are dependent on funding availability. Applicants must be graduate or undergraduate students at a college or university.

The Center for Civic Leadership (CCL) offers internships within five of their programs. These programs include: Kansas Youth Leadership Academy (KYLA), Leadership Education And Development (LEAD), Tigers In Service, American Democracy Project (ADP), and Service-Learning. Following the philosophy of the CCL to enhance civic leadership among individuals, CCL interns will have the opportunity to experience civic leadership firsthand. The CCL is looking for self-motivated, hard working students who are interested in helping others and working for the common good. Internships will run from the first day of each semester until the last day of the semester for each academic year. Both credit and non-credit internships are available to all majors. Paid and unpaid internships are also available. Applicants must be graduate or undergraduate students at a college or university.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is a local 196 bed direct supervision correctional facility that has implemented an inmate reentry program designed to assist inmates in a safe and successful transition back into the community. The Reentry Internship would be a minimum length of one semester, and offered each semester, including summers. Responsibilities of the intern include completing assigned tasks for the reentry program such as meeting with inmates to develop needs/risks to a safe and successful transition, data entry, and analysis and clerical work. A minimum grade point average for applicants is 2.5. All majors are eligible to apply. This is an unpaid internship, for credit with university departmental approval. Location of internship is the Douglas County Correctional Facility, 3601 E 25th Street, Lawrence, KS 66046.

Each year, there are three internship sessions. The first session begins in January and ends in May. The second session spans the summer months; while the third session begins in September and ends in December. Internships are available at all four office locations.
