| Consistent with the teachings
of the Leadership Studies Department, the mission of the Leadership
Studies Association is to provide students with an excellent opportunity
to further develop his or her own leadership skills. By incorporating
the program’s three major themes—creating change, collaboration,
and civic leadership—into our activities, LSA seeks to offer
its members insight greater than any classroom experience can do alone.
While learning both about their own leadership styles and how to work
with the styles of others, LSA members will strive to educate the
public and to promote the Fort Hays State Leadership Studies Department.
In efforts to optimize each member’s potential, LSA will focus
on three spheres of development. |
 |
| Our Focus Is: |
| * Self Leadership Development |
| This area shall focus on refining
one’s own personal leadership skills through various mediums
including teamwork, communication, and conflict resolution. An annual
retreat shall be held to specifically focus on this area of development. |
| * Campus Leadership
Development |
| By encouraging others to think
about leadership in a new way and by helping them learn more about
the discipline itself, LSA shall strive to promote leadership on a
campus-wide level. An annual Leadership Week shall be held on the
Fort Hays State campus in hopes to attain this goal. |
| * Community Leadership
Development |
| As leaders, LSA members
hope to make a difference in their community by posing both as positive
role models for others and by offering their leadership skills to
help organize fundraisers to raise money for area charities. Each
year at least one charity event shall be held for this purpose. |
| * Leadership Conference/Camp |
| LSA recently held a leadership
conference for high school students in western Kansas. A future project
for our organization includes helping develop a leadership summer
camp for high school students throughout the state. |
| Membership |
| Any student who is interested
in learning more about leadership and becoming a more successful leader,
shall be eligible for membership. As consistent with the teachings
of the Leadership Studies Department and all true leaders, LSA welcomes,
encourages, and appreciates diversity in any way, shape, or form.
Join LSA by contacting the leadership studies office at 628-4303 for
more information, and watch for flyers around campus about future
meetings. |
