Student Course Evaluations Help Page

Student ratings of instruction are an important element for understanding how students perceive their educational career at FHSU. It is important that the evaluations be administered as uniformly as possible throughout the University and that valid data is collected, especially regarding the instructional skills of the professor and the academic quality of the course. Your input is vital to the continued success and ongoing improvement of the courses at FHSU.

Have a question about the new online evaluation system? Read the instructions  and FAQ below. For questions not covered by this page, contact the Learning Commons.

Surveys will be ONLY be available from Nov 25- Dec. 9.

Can faculty or administration identify students through the survey tools?

Unless a student self-identifies in written comments there is NO WAY to identify the student to the response they make in the survey system. One advantage to a third party is ensuring anonymity for respondents is assured.

If the system is anonymous why is log in required?

Logging into the system allows verification that respondents have taken, partially taken, or not taken some or all assigned surveys. Again, answers to survey questions are completely separate from this verification.

When are the survey results made available?

Results of the surveys will not be made available to faculty or administration until at least one day after final grades have been submitted to the Registrar’s Office.

I don’t see one or more of my courses listed in my survey list. Why not?

Although online evaluations will be conducted on most FHSU courses, some will not be surveyed. Contact the CTC HelpDesk  to find out if your missing course is being surveyed and has been accidentally omitted from your list.

I missed the deadline to take the survey, can I get an extension?

Unfortunately, no. While each person’s voice is important to accommodate this request the entire survey must be re-administered which is not feasible. Hopefully, the three weeks prior to finals week in which the survey is open will be sufficient for the vast majority of students to participate in the evaluations.

Why can’t I complete the survey after finals week?

How the online surveys are administered including when they open, close and when the data is available is set in the Student Affairs policies of the Faculty Handbook which can be found here: http://www.fhsu.edu/academic/provost/handbook/ch_7_evaluations_faculty/

How is the data collected used?

Faculty use the data collected on the student ratings of instruction to make adjustments in their approach to the course from one semester to the next. Administration can use this same data to help understand how students perceive their learning experience at FHSU.
