As part of our efforts to support the library's mission of providing and sustaining the free flow of information, we have developed multiple digital collections falling under the guidance of the Forsyth Library Digital Collections Initiative (FLDCI) It is our ongoing mission not only to provide access and retrieval, but also to develop and maintain an area in which the new digital information generated by us will be preserved for the long-term using, whenever possible, industry-wide best practices, well-established standards, and open source formats and solutions.
Special collections include the histories of Kansas and the Great Plains,
the Volga-Germans and Fort Hays State University; a military history
collection with information from wars beginning with the Revolutionary
War up to the present day; and a small genealogy section which belonged
to the now-defunct Fort Hays Genealogy Society. These collections are available for research purposes. Materials in the collections
cannot be checked out or removed from the rooms where they are shelved
with the exception of some books from the Western Collection.
