The
Department of Mathematics and Computer Science awards both the Bachelor
of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees in Mathematics and an applied
science degree in Computer Science emphasizing software engineering. The
undergraduate major programs meet the needs of students who: (a) are preparing
to teach mathematics at the secondary level; (b) plan a career in business
or industry using computers or mathematics; or (c) plan to continue the
study of mathematics or computer science at the graduate level. The department
also offers graduate courses designed for those who are currently teaching
mathematics at the secondary level and for those who are preparing to
teach at the two-year college level. Depending on their career goals,
students choose one of two emphases: Teaching or industrial/ academic,
in the mathematics major; or the software development emphasis in the
computer science major. The majority of courses taught at the undergraduate
level are service courses for students who want some knowledge of mathematics
and computer science as part of a liberal arts education, or who are preparing
to teach at the elementary school level. The University has a commitment
to offer courses on-line via a variety of forms.
Currently,
one open academic position exists in the department. Applications for
the computer science tenure track assistant professor position to begin
August 12, 2008 are currently being accepted. The position description
