Dr. Terry Crull is Associate Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities at Fort Hays State University. His duties include conducting Fort Hays Singers (FHS), Concert Choir (CC), Women’s Chorale (WC), Men’s Glee Club (MG), and Smoky Hill Chorale (SHC). He is music director of the Fall Musical, serves as Chorus Master and/or conductor of FHSU Opera, supervises choral student teachers, and teaches courses in choral conducting, choral music education, voice class, and music appreciation. Professional memberships: ACDA, KCDA, NAfME, KMEA, BHS, and SAI music fraternity.
2016-2017 marks the twelfth year Dr. Crull has been at Fort Hays State University. In those years an FHSU choir has been selected to perform at the KMEA Workshop seven times: 2007 (CC), 2008 (FHS), 2011 (FHS), 2011 (CC), 2013 (CC), 2014 (CC), & 2016 (CC). Fort Hays Singers also goes on tours regularly. Beginning with a summer tour of Taiwan in May of 2007, the chamber group goes on Fall Break tours in even years, giving 10-15 concerts in five days within the five-state region. Recent tours have been to and from Estes Park, CO (2010), Branson, MO (2012), and Oklahoma City (2014).
Dr. Crull has guest-conducted Honor Choirs for NW-KMEA HS, SW-KMEA HS (twice), SE-KMEA HS, NW-KMEA MS, SW-KMEA MS, SC-KMEA MS, SE-KMEA MS, and numerous league vocal clinics in Kansas. He has also conducted choral festivals in California, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Nebraska, N. Dakota, S. Dakota, Washington, and Wisconsin, and has presented numerous clinics for choral directors and church music workshops. Dr. Crull has also conducted numerous church choirs, and has been actor, musical director, conductor, or producer for over ninety musical theater, opera, and drama productions. Dr. Crull also served in February 2015 on the 3-member panel of choral educators selected by the KSHSAA board to present a clinic on adjudicating large groups at state contests.
Dr. Crull has degrees in choral music education from the University of Northern Colorado (D.A.), University of South Dakota (M.M.), and Dordt College (B.A.). His 38-year career in teaching has included Ontario, CA. (5-8 choir & band), Orange City, IA. (9-12 choir & band), Dakota Wesleyan
University (Director of Choirs), University of N. Colorado (GTA), and Fort Hays State University.
