The Fort Hays State University Department of Music and Theatre and the Hays Symphony Orchestra proudly announce the tenth annual Hays Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Concerto Competition.

Competition Information:
The 2013-14 competition is open to all instrumentalists and vocalists except piano. The 2014-15 competition will be open only to pianists.
Preliminary Round: FHSU Campus, Malloy Hall

Up to three Finalists will be selected for the final round, which will
be a public performance with the Hays Symphony Orchestra at its
February 8 concert. Prizes will be announced immediately following
the concert.

Stipulations:
- All instrumentalists and vocalists (except pianists) age 29 and under at the time of the final round of the competition are eligible to complete. Previous finalists are not allowed to compete.
- Single
Concerto movements are acceptable, though complete works are preferred. Repertoire presented at the preliminary round will be repertoire performed at the final round, should the contestant advance; there will be NO exceptions to this rule. The suggested repertoire list containing acceptable repertoire for each area can be found by clicking Repertoire List. Please submit any additional repertoire to Dr. Kristin Pisano for consideration.
- Memorization is required for both rounds. Preliminary round applicants should bring three copies of the score (full orchestra score preferred), with any cuts marked, to their preliminary round audition. Preliminary round times will be 20 minutes in length; cuts may be necessary for the prelims if your piece lasts longer than 20 minutes.
- Tapes/recordings will not be accepted.
- Accompanists are required for the preliminary round but will not be provided. Contestants must bring their own accompanists.
- Application forms are due to (NOT postmarked by) FHSU no later than
Saturday, October 12, 2013. This deadline will be strictly enforced. Applications can be emailed, or can be photocopied and sent via postal mail. Applications should be sent to:

- All applicants must include a $20 registration fee (checks payable to FHSU Department of Music and Theatre) with their application, and must be RECEIVED by Saturday, October 12, 2013.
