String Scholarships/Auditions

FHSU provides competitive scholarships to deserving students who audition. Scholarships are awarded on merit. To audition, submit an audition registration form and a FHSU scholarship application. Merit scholarships are awarded based on the quality of the audition. For the best scholarship chances, apply and register to audition early!

String Scholarship Audition Requirements

1. A three-octave major and minor scale.
2. Movement of a solo work (concerto, sonata, showpiece)
3. A second contrasting work or etude

Students should plan to audition in person. Accompanists are not required and are not provided. Memorization is not required. If the distance from Fort Hays State University is too far (over 400 miles), students may submit a high-quality video recording (DVD or VHS) with the prior consent of the string faculty. Please feel free to contact Mr. Means or Mr. Morris-Cline for more information.
