The Fort Hays State University Opera Theater,
under the direction of Joseph Perniciaro, presents one full main
stage opera production each year. This production brings together
cast and orchestra in a stage production designed and constructed
by Bruce Bardwell and the FHSU Theater Department. The opera theater
also presents a representative opera scene during the Department
of Music’s annual Gala Concert.
Past productions have included The Pirates of
Penzance, The Magic Flute, and L'enfant et les
Sortilèges.
During the 2005-2006 academic year, the FHSU Opera
Theater presented a new production Henry Purcell’s Dido
and Aeneas and a scene from Act I of Gian Carlo Menotti’s
The Medium on the department of music’s “All
American Gala Concert”.
The mission of the FHSU Opera Theater is to cultivate
and develop an audience for opera in Western Kansas.
The mission of the FHSU Opera Workshop is to give
students the skills to be successful stage performers and to take
those skills into their careers whether they are in performance
or education.
