Ann Dillow Crowley

Ann Dillow Crowley joined the music faculty of Fort Hays State University full-time as an International Instructor in 2003. Mrs. Crowley teaches music course offerings through the Virtual College to Tak Ming College, SIAS University, and Shenyang Normal University. She also teaches domestic sections of Listening to Music through the Virtual College. Prior to this appointment, Mrs. Crowley has been a horn instructor at Fort Hays State University, the University of North Texas, and Cameron University. While at Cameron, she was also a chamber music coach and taught music education courses.

A 6th generation Nebraskan, Mrs. Crowley earned her BME at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. She holds a MM from the University of North Texas in horn performance with an minor in music education. She has completed a portion of her DMA in horn at North Texas where her minor emphasis was wind conducting.

Mrs. Crowley began her teaching career as an instrumental music teacher for the Aurora Public Schools in Aurora, Nebraska. She was the associate director of bands at Carpenter Middle School in Plano, Texas. At the public school level, her ensembles received consistent superior ratings.
Mrs. Crowley has extensive experience as a horn player. She has held the principal horn positions of the North Texas Wind Ensemble, Hasting Symphony Orchestra, and the Southeastern Music Center Orchestra. She has also played in the North Texas One O’Clock Lab Band, North Texas Chamber Orchestra, Nebraska Chamber Orchestra, Lincoln Symphony, Lawton Philharmonic, Salina Symphony, Irving Symphony and at the Empire Brass Seminar at the Tanglewood Institute. She has toured throughout the United States, Europe and Scandanavia performing in wind ensembles, orchestras and chamber ensembles at varied venues such as the 1992 World’s Fair in Seville, Spain.

Mrs. Crowley’s primary horn teachers include William Scharnberg, Allen French, and Margaret Robinson. She has had additional studies with Martin Hackleman, Dale Clevenger, Skip Snead, and Greg Hustis. She has studied conducting with Colonel Arnald D. Gabriel, Karel Husa, and Dennis Fisher.

Since 2001, Mrs. Crowley has been the Director of Music at the First United Methodist Church in Hays. Her Chancel Choir was the featured ensemble for the “Festival of Faith” in 2003. Dr. and Mrs. Crowley are the proud parents of two young sons and are active in many civic and social organizations in the Hays community.
