Gary Brattin is an Assistant Professor of Music, directs Symphonic
Winds, Brass Choir, Athletic Bands, and teaches the Low Brass Studio
here at FHSU. Mr. Brattin is also Principal Conductor for the Yuetao
Symphonic Wind Ensemble, in Taipei, Taiwan.
Gary lived in Taiwan, Republic of China for ten years, where he
was Principal Tuba of the Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, Taipei Symphony
Orchestra, and Taipei Sinfonietta & Philharmonic Orchestra,
as well as Director of Bands at Taipei Municipal Chien Kuo Sr. High
School, and Music Director and Conductor of the Sirens Symphonic
Winds.
Gary Brattin spent a year in Thailand
as a teacher of middle school band and elementary school strings
at International School Bangkok, as well as Director of Bands at
Mahidol University. Most recently, Mr. Brattin comes to Western
Kansas after spending three years at Northglenn High School in the
Denver Metropolitan Area.
Mr. Brattin is in demand internationally
as a guest conductor, clinician , adjudicator and computerized marching
band show designer. His musical travels include Australia, Canada,
Japan, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore,
France, Italy, The Netherlands, and throughout the USA.

Education
- Gary received his Masters Degree with dual emphasis in Wind Conducting
and Tuba Performance from the University of Northern Colorado in
2002. His Bachelor’s Degree is in Tuba Performance and Bass
Trombone minor, from the University of Northern Colorado in 1987.
Gary studied conducting with Kenneth Singleton, John Bell and Dick
Mayne. Primary tuba and bass trombone teachers are Bill Clark, Jim
Sparrow, Paul Brooks, Jack Robinson, and Benedict Kirby. Mr. Brattin
has played on master classes and/or taken private lessons from Roger
Bobo, Dan Perantoni, Gene Pokorny, Harvey Phillips, Toby Hanks,
Warren Deck, and John Stevens.
