Terry Crull serves as the Director of Choral Activities
at Fort Hays State University. His responsibilities include conducting
Concert Choir, Fort Hays Singers, Women’s Chorale, and Collegian
Chorale. He also conducts the Hays Community Choir, supervises the
Men’s Glee Club, and instructs courses in choral music education,
choral conducting, general music, and musical theater.
Mr. Crull has degrees in choral music, music
education, and voice from Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa (B.A.),
the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, South Dakota (M.M.),
and the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado (D.A.
-ABD). His 28-year career in music education has included Ontario
Christian School in Ontario, California (5-8 choir, band, and general
music), Unity Christian High School in Orange City, Iowa (9-12 choir
and band), Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, South Dakota
(Director of Choral Music and Music Ed.), the University of Northern
Colorado in Greeley, Colorado (Graduate Assistant and Men’s
Glee conductor), and Fort Hays State University.
The Wm. Hall Chorale, the Sioux County Oratorio Chorus, the Dakota
Chorale, the Mitchell Madrigal Feaste Singers, the Greeley Chorale,
the Rocky Mountain Chorale, and the Hays Community Choir have all
been community choirs where Mr. Crull served as conductor, or singer,
or both. Tours with school and community groups have included China
(twice), Italy, Canada, and many regional and national tours within
the U.S. Mr. Crull has also conducted numerous church choirs, and
has been actor, director, musical director, or producer for over
fifty opera and musical theater productions. While in Colorado he
sang LEAD in a competitive barbershop quartet.
Mr. Crull holds professional membership in ACDA, MENC, NCCO, Chorus
America, and the Barbershop Harmony Society. He has conducted choral
festivals in California, Iowa, Washington State, Minnesota, S. Dakota,
N. Dakota, Colorado, Nebraska, and Kansas, and has presented clinics
for choral directors for ICDA, SD-ACDA, CO-ACDA, KCDA, and numerous
school and church music workshops.
Mr. Crull is a candidate for the Doctor of Arts degree in choral
conducting at the University of Northern Colorado. His wife, Joan,
is String Orchestra director in Hays USD 489, having previously
conducted orchestra programs in Orange City, Iowa. Mrs. Crull has
also taught General Music, K-6, in California, S. Dakota, and Colorado.
The Crulls have four children ages 25, 23, 22, and 20.
