The 13th Annual Smoky Hills Honor Orchestra Academy
(formerly the FHSU Honor Orchestra) is comprised of the best and brightest
aspiring high school string players from around the Kansas region.
The Academy is dedicated to providing training in orchestral skills and leadership
that participating students will be able to bring back to their school orchestras
and share with fellow students. Sponsored by the FHSU string faculty and the Hays
Symphony Orchestra, the Smoky Hills Honor Orchestra Academy provides an opportunity
for string players to engage in first-rate music making and get the best orchestral
instruction available from FHSU faculty.
The two-day weekend includes intensive rehearsals, sectionals led by FHSU faculty,
and a performance with FHSU orchestra students and faculty. Performances take place
in the state of the art performing facility, Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center,
located on the FHSU campus.
The Smoky Hills Honor Orchestra Academy at FHSU will be October 17 and 18, 2008.
This year's soloists are Selim Giray, Professor of Violin and Viola at Pittsburg State,
and Ben Morris-Cline, Professor of Cello and Bass at Fort Hays State.
