HAYS, Kan. -- Opportunities for international students to
practice listening and speaking English, games and fellowship are all a part of
Conversation Corner, sponsored by Fort Hays State University's Department of
Communication Disorders from 7 to 8 p.m. on Thursdays in Chuck's Place in Wiest
Hall on the FHSU campus.
The conversations begin Sept. 20 and end Dec. 6.
"The Conversation Corner is a weekly group that offers
an opportunity for international students and students majoring in
speech-language pathology to spend time in conversation and interaction,"
said Marla Staab, clinical coordinator in the Department of Communication
Disorders. "Most students come back each week and bring friends. We have a
good time and learn so much from each other."
Each evening is spent getting to know each other, sharing
information about different cultures, playing interactive games, learning
common expressions used in the United States, suggesting improvements in
pronunciation and answering questions about Hays, the community and holidays,
along with many other topics.
