Robert ''Bob'' Schmidt, chair of the board of Eagle Communications, and Gary Shorman, president and CEO of Eagle, will be the featured presenters of Fort Hays State University's Entrepreneur Direct speaker series from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, in the Eagle Communications Hall of the Robbins Center on the FHSU campus.
Schmidt is a broadcast pioneer and entrepreneur who began his career in radio while in college at FHSU. He rose to president and CEO of Eagle Communications while growing the company into a network of television and radio stations. He is a member of the Kansas Broadcasters Hall of Fame and is actively involved in numerous business projects, including real estate, stocks and bonds, and oil and gas development.
Shorman oversees the operation of Eagle's cable and broadband systems and radio broadcast properties in Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri and Colorado. Shorman has been the president and CEO of Eagle since 1997 and is also a member of the company's board of directors. He is guiding Eagle Communications into the digital multimedia broadband world.
Entrepreneur Direct is an FHSU speaker series that features successful entrepreneurs in an informal setting accessible to students, faculty and the public. The program is intended to connect students with successful entrepreneurs who have stories and advice to share. A panel asks questions about entrepreneurship and encourages questions and interaction with the audience.
