Nursing Student Internship In Acute Care Summer Program

Program Overview...

The Nursing Student Internship in Acute Care Summer Program is a joint effort between Hays Medical Center and the Fort Hays State University Department of Nursing both of Hays, Kansas. The program allows senior BSN students to work side by side with an assigned preceptor (an experienced Registered Nurse) to apply learned theory and perform interventions based upon the nursing process.

The internship is an eight week program that provides 320 clinical hours. Each student intern's shift assignment, scheduled hours & weekend rotation are dependent upon that of their assigned preceptor. To fulfill the 320 hours of clinical time, student interns must work full-time for the duration of the program.

Students earn a stipend and 6 hours of college credit (reimbursed by Hays Medical Center upon receipt of proof of paid tuition). More importantly, student interns gain valuable clinical experience which enhances marketability after graduation and expedities the transition from student nurse to professional Registered Nurse.
