Amoxicillin (Amoxil/Wymox)

Name Amoxicillin (Amoxil/Wymox/Trimox, etc)
Classification Aminocillin
AOM Dosage 40 mg/kg/day in two or three divided doses
Children that have received antibiotics in the month prior to treatment or attend day care should be considered for ìhigh doseî amoxicillin therapy at 80-90 mg/kg/day in divided doses.

Drops = 50 mg/cc
Suspension = 125 and 250 mg/ 5cc - TID formualtion
Capsules = 250 and 500 mg capsules
Tablets = 125 and 250 mg chewable and 875 mg "BID"  tablet
200 and 400 mg/5cc  and 400 mg chewable BID formualtion

Relative Cost Cheap
Side Effects Dose dependent diarrhea
Comments Time honored antibiotic, still considered the first line antibiotic for treatment of uncomplicated AOM. BID and TID regimens have same adverse event profile.
