- Double incidence peak: 6-36 months and around 4-6 years
- By 3 years of age, at least 80% of all children will have
had one episode of OM; 50 % will have had three or more.
- OM incidence decreases significantly after 6 years of age
- Prevalence rate with OME is 15 - 20 % during childhood
- Persistent effusion can follow AOM
