Fort Hays State University Scholarships

FHSU has simplified the application process by consolidating all university scholarships into one Scholarship Application on-line Some FHSU scholarships for the 2003-2004 school year have a priority deadline of December 15, 2002. There is a final deadline of February 15, 2003. You are encouraged to apply early to avoid missing an early deadline. Applications sent after listed deadlines will not be considered.

Eligibility - You must meet the requirements for each individual scholarship you apply for as well as being a full-time students in the 2003-2004 academic year. To be considered full-time, undergraduates must be enrolled in 12 credit hours, graduate students in 9 credit hours, and graduate assistants in 6 credit hours.

Presidential Award - The Presidential Award is available to incoming freshmen who qualify as Kansas National Merit Semifinalists, Kansas Achievement Program Semifinalists or Kansas National Hispanic Semifinalists. In addition to covering all school related expenses (tuition, fees, books and housing), the scholarship is renewable for three additional undergraduate years provided the recipient remains a full-time student with a 3.0 GPA.  The Presidential Award and the Freshman Academic Awards are partially funded by the following scholarships: Hary and Clara Nielsen, Beeson/Nygen, Lulu James, Elgie L. and Nellie W. Fireoved, Albert V. Erickson, J. R. and Ethel Wells, Harold A. Long and Helen F. Hornbrook, Alice M. Powell Estate, and the Edith and Harry Darby Foundation.

University Gold Academic AwardAvailable to incoming freshmen with a composite score of 29 or above on the Enhanced ACT Assessment. This $1000 Scholarship is renewable for three additional undergraduate years provided the student remains full time (12 hrs. per semester) with a 3.0 GPA and remains at FHSU continuously. This program is partially funded by the Ralph and Lucile Hunter Scholarship program.

Hays City Silver Academic AwardThis $500 scholarship is available to incoming freshmen with a composite score of 24-28 on the Enhanced ACT Assessment. This award is also renewable for three additional undergraduate years provided the student remains full time (12 hrs. per semester) with a 3.0 GPA and remains at FHSU continuously. This program is partially funded by the City of Hays.

Miller Black and GOLD Academic Award- This one-time award of $1200 requires a composite score of 29+ on the Enhanced ACT Assessment.

Fort Hays Silver Academic Award- This one-time award of $800 requires a composite score of 24-28 on the Enhanced ACT Assessment.

Fort Hays Bronze Academic AwardThis one-time award of $300 requires a composite score of 21-23 on the Enhanced ACT Assessment.

Award of Excellence - A one-time $250 tuition/$250 residence hall reduction scholarships are awarded to first time, incoming freshmen who have demonstrated superior performance and potential in a designated academic area. Must have ACT of 21 or higher to qualify.

The Department of Nursing will send you additional forms to be completed and returned once the application is completed.

Kansas State Scholarships - Kansas State Scholarships are for high school graduates designated as state scholars. You may pick up the State of Kansas Student Aid Application in Scholarship Services in Custer Hall or have one mailed to you by calling (785) 628-4419. Through this application, you may apply for the following scholarships: Kansas State Scholarship, Kansas Nursing Scholarship, Kansas Teacher Scholarship, and the Kansas Ethnic Minority Scholarship.
