Advanced Standing and Placement

Depending on how long ago you earned your RN degree and how much you have been working as a nurse over the last three years, you may be eligible for “Advanced Standing” credit towards your BSN degree, or you may be able to test out of certain courses through “Advanced Placement Testing”. Both are described in some below, but feel free to contact Dr. Carol Moore, the RN-to-BSN coordinator, to ask specific questions. Advanced Standing Credit

You may earn “Advanced Standing” credit by demonstrating successful completion of the NCLEX-RN national exam. To qualify for Advanced Standing credit, students must have a.) graduated from a basic nursing program within the past 10 years and/or b.) worked at least 1000 hours in nursing during the last three years prior to seeking admission into the Nursing Program.

Eligible Courses for Advanced Standing Credit

Students who request Advanced Standing Credit and qualify will be granted a total of 37 nursing credit hours. The remainder of the nursing courses, 30 hours, make up the total of the 67 hours of nursing credit as required for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Course credit earned by Advanced Standing will be posted to the student’s transcript during the last semester of study in the nursing program.

Fees

Fort Hays State University charges a fee of $25.00 per course for posting Advanced Standing courses on a student’s transcript. These fees will total $350.00 for 14 nursing courses (37 credit hours), charged at the beginning of the final semester.
