Virtual College Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy
Students studying Philosophy benefit from two main aspects of the study: (1) The interdisciplinary nature of studying Philosophy, and (2) the rigorous and detailed way in which Philosophy of studied.
In order to study philosophy in a deep and meaningful way one must be familiar with other areas of study ranging from mathematics and physics to political science and sociology. To take part in these studies is to be engaged with many different problems which must be handled carefully and precisely.
This is extremely effective at training one's critical thinking, evaluating, and reasoning skills and the fact that Philosophy majors typically rank highly in tests involving these skills is testament to this. For instance, from a study compiling results from the class of 2008-2009's LSAT scores, Philosophy majors were 3rd in rank overall and ranked 2nd when accounting for number of students taking the test. From another source involving compiled data from GRE scores, Philosophy majors ranked highest in the Verbal and Analytical Writing Sections while still ranking highly in the Quantitative section of the test.
