| Akers
Energy Center

| The Akers Energy Center was built in 1968. It
is named in honor of Dale L. Akers, former Physical Plant Director.
Dale gave 42 years of loyal service to Fort Hays State University,
retiring in November, 1991. (Dedication

| Responsibilities: |
- Generate steam for the majority of buildings on campus.
Steam is used for building heat, domestic hot water, and
cooking.
- Maintain two Murray 1200 horsepower (42,000 lb/hr) water-tube
boilers and one Superior 350 horsepower (12,075 lb/hr) fire-tube
boiler.
- Service and maintain the steam distribution system up
to each building serviced on campus, through the utility
tunnels.
- Maintain utility tunnels.
- Maintain two low pressure boilers (summer back-up).
- Test and maintain proper water treatment of all cooling
towers on campus.
- Maintain all decorative water fountains on campus.
- Produce most building signage for the university.
