Model United Nations, or MUN for short, is about many things. Participants learn what needs to be accomplished in the world of international affairs and also how to formulate and implement solutions for these needs. MUN is a fun, yet challenging forum offering training in both formal and informal negotiation and public speaking.

The Model United Nations network consists largely of a group of high school and college clubs which meet at conferences (usually hosted by colleges) and perform in simulated United Nations sessions to carry out these activities. A few of the more notable American conferences include those held at Harvard, Penn, and Georgetown.

The Fort Hays State University Model United Nations club or FHSUMUN is one of the oldest and most respected clubs at Fort Hays State. Members of the club participate in simulated sessions of the United Nations called conferences. In addition, members discuss and debate current international issues in lively, intellectual club forums.

The Fort Hays State Model United Nations club has been recognized many times for both outstanding individual and delegation performances in national conferences, including Midwest Model United Nations in St Louis (MMUN). FHSUMUN maintains this high standard of performance by holding tryouts before each important conference.

In addition to participating in conferences hosted by other clubs and schools, Fort Hays State hosts theonly high-school Model United Nations conferences in the state, the Fort Hays State University Model United Nations Conference.
