Mock Trials

Opening Statement Picture

It's 10:30 a.m. and the trial is about to start. The defense and prosecution are preparing their opening statements. This case will be tried in Room 304 Sheridan Hall on the Fort Hays State University campus.

Although this is a mock trial, the students at Fort Hays State University are getting real world experience and first hand knowledge of how the law works.

This has been a great experience to participate in the mock trials. In my latest case, I argued for the defense on a criminal charge of illegal possession of drugs. It was a challenging case to prosecute but in the end, we were victorious...I guess you could say justice was served.

There is a tremendous benefit to the students in participating in mock trials. They become more confident in trial situations, test the concepts they are learning in class and most importantly, learn more about their strengths and areas for improvement. We offer some real hands on learning experiences that I know our students appreciate.
