ABD Minority-in-Summer-Residence Program
Position Announcement
Fort Hays State University (FHSU) is
interested in attracting minority Ph.D. candidates from several
disciplines to teach courses in the institution’s on-campus summer session
program. The purpose of the program is to provide an opportunity
for future faculty to experience the amenities and campus life
of a regional, comprehensive university during the summer months. The
selected individual benefits from preparing and delivering a summer
class while the university gains from hosting a potential future
scholar who will acquire a better understanding of what life on
a teaching campus is actually like.
Expectations include
teaching one three credit class during the FHSU’s eight-week summer session which begins
June 4 and ends July 26. For most programs, FHSU has established
a four day week during the summer session with no classes held
on Fridays. Summer scholars are expected to be in residence
during the entire eight-week session and participate in advising,
campus activities and professional programming. Applicants
should be in ABD status by the application deadline and a resident
of the United States.
Awards funded by the program
will include a $3500 stipend and two months residency in the
university’s on-campus
housing. During the 2007 Summer Session, we will be accepting
applications to teach in all disciplines/programs. See our
website for a complete listing of disciplines/programs at http://www.fhsu.edu/academics/.
