Position Available:
Coordinator of Student Publications
Fort Hays State University is seeking a 10-month, part-time
position to serve as the Coordinator of Student Publications. This
position shall coordinate and oversee the production and management
of the University Leader Newspaper and the Tigers Tale magazine.
Serve as the direct advisor to both student publications. Bachelor’s
degree required, mass media publishing preferred. Salary: $10,000.

Role:
To coordinate and oversee the production, management, advertising,
and business operations of the University Leader Newspaper and
the Tigers Tale magazine, as well as other multimedia publications.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serves as the direct advisor to the University Leader Newspaper
and Tigers Tale magazine.
- Provides general direction and supervision to the Leader and
Tigers Tale staff regarding their publication in the areas of
reporting, writing, editing, graphics, photography, advertising,
production, circulation, press law, ethics, staffing, organizational
policies and procedures, and technology.
- Serves as liaison to the publishers/printers of the Leader
and the Tigers Tale.
- Serves as liaison to the University business office in the
areas of payroll, expenditures, revenues, equipment, and employment
procedures.
- Prepares and coordinates training and professional development
experiences for student staff.
- Serves on the Student Publications Board and will work with
student staff on implementing the recommendations of the board.
- Meets separately with the staff of the Leader and Tigers Tale
publications on a weekly basis to provide an oral and written
critique of each issue.
- Adheres to the Code of Professional Standards for Publications
Advisers as developed by the College Media Advisers Association.
- Services as the administrative fiscal agent for the Leader
and Tigers Tale and is responsible for monitoring the budget
and making appropriate recommendations for action.
- Interprets and enforces University policies and procedures
to staff.
- Coordinates the collaboration of working relationships with
other campus departments and organizations.
- Composes annual budgets and reports, printing and publication
specifications, purchase requests, organizational policies and
procedures, rate cards and publication schedules, and other documents
necessary for the continuity and productivity of a constantly
changing student-run newspaper and magazine operation.
Organizational Relationship:
The Coordinator of Student Publications reports to the Assistant
Vice President for Student Affairs.
