FAQs about FHSU
Fort Hays State University (FHSU) is a public university
located in Hays, Kansas; we are one of six state assisted institutions
of higher education governed by the Kansas Board of Regents. Here
are some of the more frequently asked questions about our university:
Where is Hays?
Hays, Kansas is located about halfway between
Denver and Kansas City on Interstate 70. A progressive city
of
20,000 people, Hays is the largest city in the northwest quadrant
of Kansas and is the medical, cultural, educational, and industrial
center for all of northwest Kansas. Hays is easily accessible
by car and airplane. If you have additional questions about

How large is Fort Hays State University?
The current on-campus enrollment at FHSU
is almost 5,000. We also have an enrollment of about 4,000
students in
our distance education classes.
How
do I contact the university?
The telephone number of Fort Hays State University's
main switchboard is 785.628.4000. A campus operator will be able
to connect you with any university department/area you need. The
operators are able to answer some questions about the university
as well. If they are unable to answer your question, they can
connect you with someone who will have an answer for you.
How
can I get an application?
Applications for first-year and transfer
students are available from the Office of Admissions. You
may contact them
by calling 800.628.FHSU. Applications for graduate students are
available through the Graduate Studies and Research Office.

How
much does it cost to attend FHSU?
Cost is a major determining factor for most
students attending college today. If you compare universities
in and out of Kansas you will find that our university is very

How
do I apply for scholarships and financial aid?
The Office of Financial Assistance at 785.628.4408
can answer your questions about obtaining financial assistance
to attend Fort Hays State University.
How can
I obtain a transcript?
To obtain a transcript of your academic record,
you may contact the Registrar's Office at 785.628.4222. A transcript
request must be made in person or in writing to the Office of
the Registrar, Sheridan Hall; telephone requests cannot be accepted.
A written request must include the following: name used when enrolled
at FHSU, social security number, date of birth, date or semester
last enrolled at FHSU, number of transcripts requested, complete
addresses listing where each transcript is to be sent, and the
student's original signature and current mailing address. A small
fee may be assessed for the transcript.
Where
do I get information about my grades?
The Registrar's Office at 785.628.4222 can
answer your questions about obtaining copies of grades you received
for coursework completed at Fort Hays State University. Current
students may also contact their academic advisor for this information.
Where
can FHSU visitors stay?
There are a number of hotels and motels in
Hays providing visitor lodging. For a complete listing contact

What
is the name and phone number of the bookstore?
Barnes and Noble is the bookstore on campus
located in the Memorial Union. You can reach them at 785.628.5378.
Beginning Summer 1999, all students taking Virtual College courses
will order textbooks, study manuals, videotapes and audiotapes
through MBS Direct, a division of Barnes and Noble. Books and
other study materials will be shipped directly to the students'
maililng address. For more information on this procedure, contact
the Virtual College at 785.628.4291.
How
can I learn about job opportunities at the university?
The Office of University Relations has produced
an employment Web site. It is accessible at http://www.fhsu.edu/positions/pos.shtml.
In addition, the colleges and departments have individual
job
advertisements on their home pages. The State of Kansas site

How
can I find out about the distance education courses?
Enrollment of all distance education courses
is handled by our Virtual
College. A listing of courses are available at their
Web site. The Virtual College also handles correspondence
courses for the
university.
