Individual study courses such as Readings, Problems,
etc. are available for the student who wishes to go beyond the course
work offered in a particular area, participate in research, special
projects, etc. In general, the department does not approve independent
study that duplicates a formal course. The procedure for enrolling
in one of the individual study courses is as follows: (1) decide
on a topic, (2) decide on a supervising faculty member, (3) obtain
the permission of that faculty member and your advisor, and (4)
enroll in the course.
Degree Options
Bachelor of Arts: A candidate for
the BA in psychology must complete a 20 hour sequence of out-of-department
courses as approved by the Psychology faculty. Generally, this will
be a sequence of courses in one department or area related to the
student’s academic or occupational goals. The BA degree also
requires completion of 10 hours of a single foreign language.
Bachelor of Science: A candidate
for the BS in Psychology must complete 20 hours of course work in
Natural Science and/or Mathematics.
We recommend the BS option for students intending
doctoral study.
