Dane G. Hansen Scholarship Hall

The Dane G. Hansen Scholarship Hall is funded by a generous gift from the Dane G. Hansen Foundation. The Scholarship Hall serves as a living space for select group of 33 students who have a passion for entrepreneurship. It provides individual private rooms with many amenities including an eLab classroom space, innovation rooms designed for team work, student study lounges, high speed fiber connectivity (10Gbe to the building, 1Gbe at the jacks, and 802.11ac wifi), an equipped kitchen, a recharge room, a business center, and in-house free laundry facilities. Facilities with 3D printers and audio and video editing are available nearby.

Students from any academic major at FHSU interested in entrepreneurship, and willing to commit to completion of the four course (12 credit hour) certificate in entrepreneurship and abide by all residential community guidelines and policies for this extraordinarily unique educational opportunity may apply for acceptance into this select residential community.

In addition to a living environment, Hansen Hall residents participate in entrepreneurship tours, competitions, and unique speakers. Transportation, hotel, and most meal costs are covered on overnight tours.

The cost for Entrepreneurship Scholarship Students for 2017-2018 will be $2,840 per academic year ($1,420 semester). The fee for living in Dane G. Hansen Scholarship Hall covers rent, all utilities, Internet, and cable. Like other FHSU housing, Freshmen and sophomores living on campus are required to have also have a FHSU Residential Life housing contract.

In addition to the state of the art facilities and amenities, the focal point of this scholarship hall is the educational component completely devoted to entrepreneurial learning objectives. Students engage in entrepreneurship coursework and curriculum carefully developed and based upon proven best practice approaches. Our state of the art facilities to work with best practice coursework and curriculum to help students develop an invaluable entrepreneurial skill set.

Students in the scholarship hall are their own community/organization. This is a great place to make life-long friendships with other entrepreneurial students from across the spectrum of university majors.

Recent surveys have reported 54-63% of millennials have already started their own business or have a desire to do so. This scholarship hall will provide a unique opportunity to work with your peers who share your passion for entrepreneurship. Are you interested in technology? The founders of Microsoft, Apple, Dell, Google, Yahoo, Blackberry and Facebook ALL met each other as students in school. Have an idea involving health fields, transportation, logistics, graphic design, tourism and hospitality? Multiple firms in the United States have been developed from ideas founders generated and first worked on as students. Interested in solving problems which will benefit society? Many companies have started as ideas springing from the desire to do well as a business and do good for society at the same time, a value millennials share.

Eligibility

The Dane G. Hansen Scholarship Hall recipients are awarded private room residence in the scholarship hall for an academic year. Ideal candidates have two academic years of coursework remaining. This scholarship is renewable with a demonstrated commitment to entrepreneurship and academic excellence.

To be eligible for consideration:

  • Applicant must be enrolled full time at Fort Hays State University during residence in the scholarship hall.
    • Undergraduate students must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester.
    • Graduate students must be enrolled in a minimum of 9 credit hours per semester.
  • Applicant must be in good academic standing.
    • Undergraduate students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.50.
    • Graduate students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0.
  • Applicant must commit to and be enrolled in or have completed the 12 credit hour FHSU Certificate in Entrepreneurship program as well as satisfactory grades and performance in the certificate coursework.
  • Applicant must effectively participate in all scholarship hall activities such as tours, projects, video conferences, and community meetings.
  • Applicant must commit to limiting non-related work during the school session.
  • Applicant must be in good standing with the FHSU Residential system.
