Deferments/Forbearance/Cancellations
Student Deferment
Deferment may be granted to a student if he/she has
returned to school, is degree seeking, and is enrolled at least
half time.
Important Things to Remember about Student Deferments
- It is your responsibility to make sure our office
knows that you are enrolled either at FHSU or at another school.
- A Student Deferment form must be submitted at the
beginning of each semester/term.
- If late fees have accrued, they must be paid before
the deferment will be processed.

Forbearance/Hardship/Unemployment
Deferment
Forbearance
Forbearance is a temporary postponement of payments.
Students experiencing difficulty making loan payments may request
this benefit. Approval and length of deferment are at the
discretion of the school. Interest DOES accrue while the
loan is in postponement.
Hardship
Students experiencing economic hardship may apply
for up to 3 years of deferment if the student falls within the categories
listed under Benefit Type 2 of the request form. Approval
and length of deferment are at the discretion of the school. Interest
does not accrue during the time of the deferment.
Unemployment
Students seeking but unable to find full-time employment
may apply for up to 3 years of deferment. Approval and length
of deferment are at the discretion of the school. Interest
does not accrue during the time of the deferment.

that pertain to your situation.
- Please provide all required documentation.
- If this form is incomplete it will be returned
to the borrower.
Loan Cancellation
Cancellation benefits are available for students who meet certain employment requirements.
