Federal Perkins Student Loan Rehabilitation
FHSU Federal Perkins Student Loan Borrowers
Due to recent changes in Federal regulations (Code of Federal Regulations - 34 CFR 674.39), Fort Hays State University is establishing a Federal Perkins Student Loan Rehabilitation program for defaulted borrowers, which will become effective July 1, 2000. A defaulted loan will be considered rehabilitated after the borrower makes 12 consecutive on-time monthly payments, as determined by Fort Hays State University.
The benefits of loan rehabilitation include:
- The request will be sent to the credit bureau to remove default from the credit history.
- The loan is returned to regular repayment status.
- The first payment made under the 12 consecutive payments is the first payment under the 10-year repayment maximum.
- Borrower regains the balance of benefits and privileges of the promissory note as applied prior to default.
- Collection accounts will be returned from the collection agency.
- Borrower re-establishes Title IV student financial assistance eligibility.
How to apply:
Borrowers must request loan rehabilitation by contacting the office listed below.
A Loan Rehabilitation Agreement must be negotiated, approved and executed before the loan can be rehabilitated.
A defaulted loan may be successfully rehabilitated one time only!
Contact our office if you would like to take advantage of this program.
