Community safety is a top priority for the Student Government Association. Over the past several years, SGA has supported the expansion of the Center of Public Safety on campus, funded safety initiatives such as SafeRide, participated in an annual safety walk with campus police, and become members of the Partnership for a Safer Community, lead by Ed Howell, the Director of Police at Fort Hays State University.
In recent weeks, SGA has increased its collaboration with local public safety agencies to ensure students are safe on campus and in the community. We are currently focusing on implementing security awareness training, increasing the flow of information between students and public safety officials, improving emergency communication and notification, and improving lighting conditions at or near the Fort Hays State University campus.
