Department

James Densley, M.S.
Instructor
- James
teaches three courses through FHSU's virtual college: Introduction
to Sociology; Sociology of the Family in America; and Multiculturalism
in the United States. His principal research interests are in
criminology, education theory, inequality, and the sociology of
organizations.
As
a graduate student, James prepared and presented papers that examined
the effects of culture and discretion in policing; issues of gender
and racial discrimination and difference in the criminal justice
system; victims' rights; sociological critiques of restorative
justice; cooperative learning in the classroom; the middle school
reform movement; and the No Child Left Behind Act.
James
is a certified middle childhood education generalist (students
with disabilities, grades 5-9), and a former New York City Teaching
Fellow. For the past two years, he worked as a teacher and special
education coordinator for a New York University partner middle
school on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. James is currently
pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy degree in sociology from the University
of Oxford, England. He is located at St. Antony's College, the
University's center for international studies and one of the world's
leading social science research institutions. James' doctoral
thesis concerns a comparative study of youth gang recruitment
within schools in the United Kingdom and United States.
James'
extra-curricular interests include short-film making and travel.
