Karla Armbrister, M.S.W.

Instructor
 
Karla Armbrister graduated from Washburn University with a master of social work degree in 1997. She was honored to be among the first MSW graduating class at Washburn. Karla worked in community mental health during her internship and consequent employment. This work included individual, family, and group therapy with women, parents, severely emotionally disturbed children, domestic offenders, and the severely and persistently mentally ill. Karla also interned at the Northwest Kansas Family Shelter during her sociology internship for her bachelor of art studies at Fort Hays. Karla most recently worked as a director of a mentoring organization, which included grant writing and fiscal responsibilities, as well as overseeing the casework and volunteer training of that organization.

Karla currently teaches the Women and Social Action and Social Inequality courses through the Virtual College. She also taught introductory sociology at Barton County Community College prior to becoming an instructor at Fort Hays. Her interests are current women's issues and how historical study of women can affect change today.

Karla has been married for 13 years and has two toddler/preschooler sons. Karla enjoys playing golf and reading mysteries in leisure time
