- Kendal
received his Bachelors degree in Social Work (BSW) at Fort Hays
State University and later completed his Masters degree in Social
Work (MSW) at the University of Kansas in 2004 with a concentration
in clinical social work. He is a licensed Master of Social Work
(LMSW), a Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor (CADC I) and
he is a Kansas State Supreme Court approved mediator. Kendal grew
up in the Hays area and his appointment to the Fort Hays State
University faculty has in a sense, allowed him to return home
and it will provide an opportunity for Kendal to reconnect with
his roots.
Kendal's professional
work has been primary focus on addictions and including chemical
and behavioral addictions and mental health. He has worked at
New Chance, Inc. Garden City, KS and Mirror, Inc. Newton, KS as
a substance abuse counselor.
Kendal worked
at Prairie View Behavioral Health on the Newton and Hutchison,
KS campuses as a therapist on the substance abuse treatment team
as well as the sexual offender treatment team (both adult and
adolescent offenders) where he provided group and individual therapy.
Other roles while at Prairie View included case management, assessment,
discharge planning and family therapy while a team member of the
adult and adolescent inpatient treatment facility and the adolescent
residential treatment program.
Kendal returned
to Southwest Kansas in 2004 in the role of case manager where
he worked with individuals who received TAF benefits and had an
identified substance abuse issue. He later moved into the criminal
justice field where he provided substance abuse counseling and
mental health therapy for individuals who were on probation with
community corrections.
Just before
coming to Fort Hays State University, Kendal worked as a Clinical
Director for Heartland Regional Alcohol and Drug Assessment Center.
His work included clinical supervision, assessing and referring,
advocacy, community capacity building, brokering of services,
implementation of new programs and collaborative work with both
public and private social service agencies across the State of
Kansas.
Kendal is
passionate that the principles of social work and addictions counselors
be upheld and practiced and for the professional growth of practicing
social workers as well as practicing addiction counselors. He
is a board member of Friends of Recovery Association and he is
a member of the Kansas Association of Addiction Professional Ethics
Committee.
