Department of Sociology and Social Work

Rose Arnhold, M.S.

Associate Professor and Coordinator of the Interpersonal Relations Certicate Program
Upon graduating from Fort Hays State University with degrees in Sociology and History, Rose Arnhold taught in the public school system for five years. She returned to Fort Hays to finish her Master's Degree, accepted a temporary appointment with the Department of Sociology and remained at the University. Her interests are in gender, family and majority/minorities studies. She served as Chair of the Department of Sociology and Social Work from 1994 to 2008.

She was among the first to receive the Pilot Award for outstanding teaching at Fort Hays State, she was one of the six University professors to teach in the first Regents Honor Academy in 1987, and she was recognized as Kansas Professor of the Year by Council for Advancement and Support of Education in 1988.

Rose Arnhold is fond of reminding students that they have a responsibility to contribute to their community. Among her contributions are the establishment of the Northwest Kansas Family Shelter and Rape Crisis Center for which she wrote the original grant, and Hospice of the Plains. She currently contributes to the Family Development Services, which provides services to the community and experience for sociology and social work students.
