Biography:
Welcome to our department. I’m glad you took the time to see
who we are. I was born and raised in Colorado but have spent
the last 19 years at Fort Hays State serving in a variety of roles.
Prior to coming to Hays I spent a few years at Wichita State University
and Eastern Illinois University.
I am the chair of the Special Education
Department.
The department includes programs and coursework in special education,
English for Speakers of Other Languages and Assistive Technology. I
usually teach courses in the cultural diversity area in special
education and English for Speakers of Other Languages programs.
My
current interest areas include the relationship of language and
culture to special education and the arts in special
education. If you come on campus please visit the fountain
in front of Tomanek Hall. Over two hundred middle school children
created panels, which were subsequently cast in bronze and welded
to create a one-of-a-kind fountain expressing children’s views of
science. This was an inclusive project and represented children
of all levels of ability. I had the privilege of being one
of the co-directors of the project. Look carefully and let
me know what you think.
My latest personal project is learning to
work with stained glass. I am learning to treat my materials – glass
– very carefully. I am also learning about the effects of
light on my environment. But, most of all, I am learning
patience.
If you are interested in more information about our
programs please let me know. |
