First Year Residential Expereince

Join our First Year Residential Experience and you will enjoy the benefits of a small community with focused attention from faculty, successful upperclassmen, and programs designed to support you as you move through a complete collegiate experience. The attached “interest form” will allow us to assign you to one of these clusters in McMindes, Wiest, or Custer Hall. By living within a FYRE cluster, you will have the opportunity to connect quickly with other first year students who face the same challenges as you as you all participate in the FYRE programs and experience campus life. We have listed some of the activities included in the FYRE program later in this brochure. Each cluster is assigned a Student Academic Mentor (SAM) to assist you make the most of the FYRE opportunity. Your SAM is an upperclassman who has been successful in all aspects of the FHSU experience and will help you select activities and programs which will help you be successful as well. A student participates in those activities and programs of theirchoice and earns points which (s)he may “spend” for a variety of incentives throughout the year. Incentives may include items like ipods, video games, sporting equipment, date packages, movie packages, gift certificates, and other items.
