| Join our First
Year Residential Experience and you will enjoy the benefits
of a small community with focused attention from faculty, successful
upperclassmen, and programs designed to support you as you move
through a complete collegiate experience. The attached interest
form will allow us to assign you to one of these clusters
in McMindes, Wiest, or Custer Hall. By living within a FYRE
cluster, you will have the opportunity to connect quickly with
other first year students who face the same challenges as you
as you all participate in the FYRE programs and experience campus
life. We have listed some of the activities included in the
FYRE program later in this brochure. Each cluster is assigned
a Student Academic Mentor (SAM) to assist you make the most
of the FYRE opportunity. Your SAM is an upperclassman who has
been successful in all aspects of the FHSU experience and will
help you select activities and programs which will help you
be successful as well. A student participates in those activities
and programs of theirchoice and earns points which (s)he may
spend for a variety of incentives throughout the
year. Incentives may include items like ipods, video games,
sporting equipment, date packages, movie packages, gift certificates,
and other items.
Examples of Fyre Programs and Activities:
Students will be able to earn points by participating in a
variety of programs including those following. Students may
also work with their Student Academic Mentors to have other
programs/activities count towards point accumulation.
Monitor
academic progress with professors and Student Academic Mentors
(SAMS) at least twice
per semester. (required)
Attend
community council and/or RHA meetings regularly and be active
in associated activities
Participate actively in one other campus organization (from
over 100 organizations FHSU offers)
Attend
at least three (3) programs/activities sponsored by University
Activities Board
Attend
at least three Tiger Series seminars which cover topics from
time management to
stress-reducing massages
Maintain
an ongoing bi-weekly blog with other participants and the
SAM (required)
Participate
in various community service programs provided by the floor/cluster
(required)
Complete
study hours on the floor per week
Participate
and organize activities and events on the floors
Performing
or working in FHSU-sponsored cultural events
Attending
athletic events
Participating
in FHSU intramurals
Service
on a community Judicial Board
Participation
in Orientation and/or Tiger Impact
An Interest Form must be on file with your completed housing
contract for consideration of placement within one of our
First Year Clusters and participation is limited. Assignment
will be made according to date of interest form/completed
housing contract return.
