Noel Levitz - Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Noel Levitz College Student Inventory?
The Noel Levitz College Student Inventory is an assessment given to incoming freshmen that measures a students' Academic Motivation, General Coping Skills, and Receptivity to Support Services, based on the students' self-assessment.

Why does Fort Hays State University feel that the Noel Levitz College Student Inventory is important?
Fort Hays State University believes that when a student discovers an early need for resources and is provided that support, he or she will be engaged in active learning and a commitment to their education and future. We know the process of starting college can be stressful. At FHSU, we are committed to providing students with opportunities and services that can ease the transition. Our ultimate goal is providing resources to students to help them succeed at college and continue through graduation.

Who takes the Noel Levitz College Student Inventory?
Typically incoming students take the Noel Levitz CSI before they come to college or in their first semester at FHSU. All freshmen are required to take the CSI at FHSU.

When did I take the Noel Levitz College Student Inventory?
When you registered for your fall courses, you completed the Noel-Levitz College Student Inventory (CSI). This may have been at Pre-Enrollment Days in April, May, or June; or you may have walked in to the Admissions Office to enroll. Some students take the CSI more than once-both at enrollment, and as a student in EAC 103.

How and when do I get my results?
Student reports are sent to a student's home address in August, if they have taken the CSI prior to that time. If the CSI is taken in August, through the first day of classes, their report is sent to their local address, as listed on Tiger Tracks. If you have not seen your report, you can get another copy from Student Affairs, 208 Sheridan Hall.

How can I use my results?
According to your student report, you may find the following resources to be a benefit to your campus success. These offices are dedicated to your educational and personal success. An "x" marks the services that you may find beneficial specific to your student report; if no services are marked, then your responses do not indicate the need for additional services.

Who sees my results?
All student reports are kept confidential within the Fort Hays State University community. They are shared with your academic advisor and other resource areas that may be able to assist you. These areas include: The Academic Assistance Center; the Kelly Center; Career Services; Diversity Affairs; the Center for Student Involvement; Financial Aid; Student Affairs; and Residential Life. These offices may contact the students who have a high need in their area, as an outreach of support.

When taking the test, students may select to keep their records private. These reports are sent only to the student and are not released elsewhere on campus.

What do my findings mean?
Your student report makes recommendations of areas in which you may find some support helpful. Included with your report is a letter. An "x" in front of any of the following indicates that you should contact that office for some assistance in that area. Some people may have no "x"s. In that case, that student's report does not indicate a need for additional support services. However, all of the resources listed are free and open to ALL students. The areas that you may need additional support include:
